Big Screen TV vs Projector?
I want a big picture. I’m on a price limit and a projector intrigues me. I have seen some Home Theater Projectors with native resolution of 720p and a replacement bulb and mount and wall screen for about 600$. I know that Big Screen TV’s in the 60’s(inches) are at least 1,000 and that’s for DLP which I heard just about as long as a Projector bulb.
So my question is if you have experience with them, which one do you like and why?
You aren’t going to get a very good picture if you only spend $600 on both the projector AND screen.
TVs will always provide a better picture than a projector. They do cost more per inch of screen size and they are limited in their size, but the picture is better and there are speakers included if you aren’t using external speakers.
Now projectors can provide a good image at a decent price IF you have everything prepared properly:
1. Relatively dark room
2. Decent projector (not an economy piece of junk from China or SVGA data projector)
3. Decent screen (preferably a dedicated projection screen, though a specially-painted white wall could work)
Also keep in mind that projectors work best for throwing large images (roughly 80 inches and up). The optics are not designed to throw a smaller image.
DLP projection just might be your best option.
