Can soot from a furnace damage my Flat screen HD Plasma Television?
My furnace needed to be cleaned, and my landlord tried cleaning it himself, instead of hiring professionals. He stuck a vacuem hose up in the furnace, and all the soot went in, and blew out the back of the vacuem, for he didnt have a filter on it. It primarily landed all in the kitchen, but I’m finding it throughout the apartment. Everything I touch leaves black on my hands. My 42 in Dell HD Plasma television is now acting funny. You are not even to clean the screen with windex. Soot turns greasy upon trying to clean. My landlord feels no remorse or obligation to fix it either. I am going to take him to court, but I want to know what I am talking about before I go in.
OMG … this is not good at all! Plasma TV’s run HOT and need forced air ventilation. I’m sure if you look in the back of your unit you will see the fans. If your TV was on then for sure the soot was sucked into it and even if it weren’t I’m sure some found its way in. I’d have the TV inspected and if there is soot inside take pictures and have the tv guy sign an affidavit and maybe you can use that in court against your landlord.
