Plasma Television Burn in?
I’m considering buying a plasma television, and I know you have to be careful about the first hundred hours, and I’m thinking about the samsung PN50A530, and if I use the anti-burn in features, do I have to worry about watching widescreen, letterboxed movies and normal tv with network logos right after I buy the tv? Are the anti burn in features good enough to prevent that?
Most networks are now aware of the possibility of Image Retention or Burn In on plasma displays so they no longer show the network logo in bright, bold letters. A good majority of them are transparent or a dim white. Be sure to turn down the contrast (or picture) and brightness settings for the first 100 hours. Also, try viewing letterbox with gray bars instead of black. I have also heard that Image Retention is actually a bigger concern than burn in on newer model plasmas. IR will fade or can be erased, whereas burn in cannot. I think that the PN50A530 is one of these newer TVs.
