Can a HDTV 1080i set be converted to 1080p via the tv’s internal upgradeable software?
I own a RCA 50′ dlp (HD50LPW151). The software is upgradable via the eternet connection on the back of the set. However, the set was produced about 5 years ago and is only 1080i. The set also has a HDMI output.
My question is 1080p obtainable via a software update or is progressive 1080p scanning gained only physically by requiring some type of internal part?
I have no desire to purchase another HDTV set based on this feature but it would be nice if it was obtainable on my current television.
this tv is not upgradable to 1080p. back when some hdtvs only displayed 1080i and couldnt do 720p, was because these tvs had a lower resolution than the 720p sets today(which is now the minimum standard), they had a resollution of 540p, which 1080i is easily converted to. this was prety common then. i even owned a philips 1080i tube tv. (i chose this tv because of the picture quality). so whithout getting into all the details your tv cannot be converted to 1080p .
wait a minute you have a dlp, then this tv can display 720p right? then you have a 720p resolution tv. you need at least 1920×1080 to be 1080p . in this case the first part of my answer does not apply. but does not change the fact tat your tv is not upgradeble to 1080p. enjoy your set while it still lasts. have you had to change the lamp yet? get ready for it. good luck.
